Nita J. Burns, age 89, of Athens, Ohio, passed away April 22, 2024, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
Nita was born May 21, 1934, in South Bloomingville to William Addison Unger and Florence Mae Garrett. She was a graduate of Benton High School in South Bloomingville; formerly worked at G.C. Murphy in Logan; was a member of The Christ Community Wesleyan Church of Albany: collected Barbie dolls and loved sewing dresses for the dolls; and loved NASCAR, all sports, westerns, and country music.
Surviving are her children, Michael Burns of Logan, Beverly Peffer of The Plains, Tammy Wilcoxen of Racine, and Jeff Burns of Jackson Center; grandchildren, John and James Wilcoxen; sisters, Bonnie Yates of Logan, Peggy Gantzer of Centreville, Virginia, and Shirley Unger of South Bloomingville; brothers, Larry Unger of Lancaster, David Unger of Laurelville, and Thomas Unger of South Bloomingville; and friends, Martha Grueser of Athens, and Lesley Preece of Racine.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Norma June Kercher and Linda Durst; brother, William Unger Jr.; and former spouse, Herman Burns.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday April 27, 2024, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Bloomingville, Ohio.
Calling hours were observed 10 am – 2 pm on Friday April 26, 2024, and 9 – 10 am Saturday April 27, 2024, at the funeral home.
