Elmer H. Sanborn, 89, of Millfield, Ohio passed away August 17, 2016 at his residence. Elmer was born October 20, 1926 in Glouster, Ohio to Cecil and Lena Sanborn. He was a US Navy Veteran; worked in coal mines; was self-employed trucking coal; worked for the City of Logan, American Refrigeration in Columbus, and Pepsi Bottling Company; retired from Goodyear; and in retirement he sold air conditioners, and riding mowers; and he operated a junkyard and a farm. He enjoyed making things run and scrapbooking. Surviving are his children, Rick (Carol) Sanborn of Millfield, Dona Morris and her fiance’ Gary Christian of Athens, Rod (Cathy) Sanborn of Middleburg, Rocky (Elaine) Sanborn of Millfield, Ron Sanborn of New Marshfield; daughter-in-law, Beverly Atkinson of New Marshfield; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwight (Doris) Sanborn of Columbus and Foster Sanborn of Hollister; sister-in-law, Hazel Sanborn of Laurelville and Saundra Sanborn of The Plains; many nieces and nephews; and neighbors, Nick and Ellen Carr, and Gloria Byard all of Millfield. Elmer was preceded in death by parents; siblings, Ada Mae (Bill) Barnhart, Edna (Orville) Love, Helen (Ray) Pancake, George (Jean) Sanborn, Cecil Sanborn, Danny (Joe) Sanborn, Bart Sanborn, Etta (Alfred) Darby, and twins at birth; son, Thomas Atkinson; granddaughter, Faith Stewart; and sister-in-law, Kay Sanborn. Funeral services were held 1:00 PM Saturday August 20, 2016 at the Brown Funeral Home Murray City, Ohio with Pastor Gary Alton officiating. Burial was in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield, Ohio, where Military Graveside services were conducted by the Athens County Combined Color Guard. Family and friends gathered at the American Legion after the service. Calling hours were observed Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 10 am till time of service.
