Virginia Bowland, age 95 of Nelsonville finished her life here on earth on Friday, September 1, 2017 in Logan, Ohio. She was born on February 22, 1922. She was the daughter of Carl and Margaret Michaels Wend of Nelsonville. Virginia spent her early married life in New Straitsville but the majority of her life was spent in Nelsonville. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews. She worked at Brooks Shoe Company for almost 50 years, was an avid euchre player and a former bowler. She will be remembered by many as a great cook and fudge maker. She created beautiful silk flower arrangements and collected stuffed bears. She was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Jenny’ by many who knew her. As well as her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by an infant son and Jack, her husband of 42 years, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Eileen Wend, sisters and brothers-in-law Gertrude and first husband Al Ray and second husband John Clouston, Lillian and Carl Young, Betty and Fred Wintermute, and Phyllis and Joe Schenz, nieces Lois Ann Gibbons, Roberta Lewis, Patti Ray, Rosemary Vasko, Mary Wend and Janice Clouston, nephews Jim Ray, Bill Wend, Mick Young, Roy Clouston, and Phillip Schenz and special friend Jess Hiles, and great-niece Susan Davis. Virginia is survived by nieces Anita Reliford, Judy Thompson, Joyce Smart, Margie Jonas, Jane Boney, Judy Backus, Judy Young, Mona Ray, Lisa Kline, Sharon Campbell, Lois Clouston and Susan Wend, and nephews Jan Wintermute, John Bob Wend, Neal Schenz, and Jack Clouston. Great-nieces Mary Ellen Mize, Martie Lawhorn, Sara Gibbons, Kathy Robson, Christy Bradley, Jane Bishop, and Jennifer Sargent. Great-nephews Rick Smart, Tim Kline, Ben Kline, Randy Reliford, and Barry Lewis and several great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Karen Knece and JoAnn and Larry Vasko. Specail thanks to Linda Mowser and the staff at Anna’s Retirement Center of Logan and the staff at Heartland Hospice Care of Circleville. Following Virginia’s wishes, she was cremated and interred at New Straitsville Cemetery. A memorial celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at a later date.
