Wilma Berniece Lanning, 86, of Millersport, Ohio formerly of Nelsonville passed away June 23, 2016 at Thornville Health and Rehab in Thornville, Ohio. Wilma was born August 15, 1929 in Athens, Ohio to Gerald and Opal McHarg. She loved her grandkids, traveling, and gardening; worked at Athens County Clerk of Courts and was a self employed cake decorator; and member of Nelsonville Community Benefit Club, and Nelsonville Emblem Club. Surviving are sons, Carl H. Lanning Jr of The Plains, Stephen Lanning of Gahanna, Michael Lanning of Kenton, and Bill Lanning of Millersport; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and sisters, Norma Amos, Verna McCoy, and Grace Clendenin. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Carl H. Lanning Sr. who passed away August 24, 1999; son Jimmy Lanning who passed away December 7, 1958; and sister Thelma Peyton. Graveside services were held 10:00 am Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio with Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating. Calling hours were observed Monday, June 27, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home.
