Robert E. Smith Sr., 90, of Logan, Ohio passed away February 22, 2018 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan, Ohio. Robert was born December 20, 1927 in Logan, Ohio to Bort and Thelma Smith. He was a 1945 graduate of Logan High School; was a WWII Navy Veteran; member of AmVets, American Legion, and the Coast Guard Aux; enjoyed wood working; and was an OSU fan. Surviving are daughters, Lynn Toops of Logan, Susan (Randy) Mohler of Lancaster, Kim Kuhn of Logan, Kathy (Tom) Fraizer of Bellfontaine, Polly Carter of New Plymouth, and Janet (William) McCarta of Metairie, LA; son Robert (Cheryl) Smith Jr. of Stoneville, NC; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Pat Schell of New Mexico. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna L. Smith who passed away March 2017; sons, William and James Smith; grandchildren, Aidian Smith, Zachary Kuhn, and April Mohler; and 5 brothers and sisters. A memorial service was held at 7:00 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio with Rev. Rick Bennington officiating. Calling hours were observed Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 4:00 pm to time of service. A Military Service was held at 6:45 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made to the USO at USO.org. A private burial will be at a later date in Shaw Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.
