Dorothy I. Smith, 85, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, in The Plains, Ohio. She was born on May 3, 1938, in Athens, Ohio. She attended Albany High School and lived in Athens County for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Smith: parents, Lena Harmon Tippie and Ross H. Tippie; sisters, Mary Betts and Ada Kantner; as well as a nephew, Jeff Betts.
She is survived by sisters, Donna Bowers, and Linda Crabtree. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who were all dear to her.
Dorothy worked as an aid for many years in nursing homes as well as individual care. She was blessed to have a generous fun-loving spirit and a kind heart, which enabled her to make friends easily. She found pleasure in many genres of music, especially gospel. Her love of art, whether coloring, painting, or crafting, gave her many satisfying hours and she shared completed pieces with friends and family.
Dorothy was an avid baseball fan. Watching Cincinnati Reds Baseball, with her special friend, Bill Lee, was one of her favorite pastimes. She was a proud lifetime auxiliary member of the VFW, Post #7174.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Warren-Brown Funeral Home located at 80 East Washington St., Nelsonville, OH 45764. A service was held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 2:00 PM with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Alexander Cemetery, Albany, Ohio.
