Barbara L. Williams, age 84, of Murray City, Ohio, passed away December 24, 2023, at the Laurels of Athens in Athens, Ohio.
Barbara was born August 19, 1939, to her loving parents, Philmore and Margaret Matheny. She was a 1957 graduate of Murray City High School and worked at Doctor’s Hospital in Nelsonville, Good Year, and Brooks Shoe Company. She loved to dance, and people would gather around to watch her and her brother, Harold, “cut a rug”. Barbara was a wonderful person with a truly caring heart for others. She would always try to help others in her community that didn’t have, even when she herself didn’t necessarily have it to give. She would bring people into her home for holiday meals to make sure they ate and weren’t alone.
Surviving are her children, Lisa (Rick) Fain, Lori Ann Handa-Holdran, and Bill (Jennifer) Handa; grandchildren, Holly Jo (Chad) Parsons, Ashley (Eric) Sams, Lindsey (Ayla) Holdren, Colt Handa, Cody Handa, Jessica Handa, Robert Handa, Logan Handa, Chelsea Handa, and Mia Handa; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Lew (Rosanne) Matheny; and sister, Joan Thompson.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert A. Williams; and siblings, Harald (Pam) Matheny, Elaine (George) Wright, and Carl (Aicha) Matheny.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday December 30, 2023, at the Brown Funeral Home of Murray City, Ohio. Burial followed at Carbon Hill Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Ohio.
Calling hours were observed from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Saturday December 30, 2023, at the funeral home prior to the service.
