Bonnie Gay Yates, age 89, was called to Heaven on Saturday July 6, 2024, to meet her Lord, and join her husband of 66 years, Thomas Leroy Yates. She was born May 15, 1935, at home, to William Addison Unger and Florence May Garrett Unger. Bonnie passed at her home, surrounded by her family. She will be sadly missed.
Bonnie was a homemaker for most of her life. Not only did raising her 5 children keep her very busy, so did quilting, crocheting, sewing, and canning. For many years Bonnie entered items in the Hocking County Fair, and was awarded many ribbons. Reading, playing euchre, watching hummingbirds around all of her flowers, and keeping an eye on her cows were a few other things she enjoyed. Most of all, she loved her family, being called Mom, Momma, Mommy by her children, and grandma Bonnie or Gramms by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a life member of the Pine Grove Christ Community Church.
Surviving are her children Betty (Rich) Eberts, Jack (Judy) Yates, Patsy Smith, Penny (Dondi) Meece, and Amy Yates; grandchildren April (Chris) Wisecarver, Nick Meece, Meagan (Jared) Schoenlaub, Kimberly (Taylor) Junge, Jenny (Scott) Merritt, Kristin (Chris) Mackler, Brittany Meece, Steven (Kelsey) Eberts, and Linda (Kyle) Lindsey; great-grandchildren Skylar and Emmalee Wisecarver, Danielle Parish, Bjorn Lindsey, Lincoln Mackler, and Jaxson Eberts; and special extended family members Pam and Jan Myers and Tim Keith.
Also surviving are her sisters Peggy Gantzer and Shirley Unger; brothers Larry (Sue) Unger, David (Judy) Unger; sisters-in-law Carolyn Unger, Laura Brooks, Donna Baker, Judy Keith; and many nieces and nephews. on both sides of the family.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Matthew Thomas Meece; great-grandson Aidian Thomas Smith; and other family members Thomas Unger, Nita Jean Burns, William & Virginia Unger, Linda & Leroy Durst, Norma June & George Kercher, and many other loved ones.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon, Thursday July 11, 2024, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio with Pastors Ben Fannin & Michael Menrath officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Bloomingville, Ohio.
Calling hours were observed10 am – 12 noon on Thursday at the funeral home.
