Cindy Ellen Roman (Powell), age 64 of Nelsonville, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in The Plains, Ohio.

Cindy was born on May 20, 1960, to Rich and Faunie Powell. She was a 1978 graduate of Nelsonville York High School and attended Hocking College. She was formally an employee of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, COAD, SEORJ, and Fruth Pharmacy- all of which she spoke fondly of.

Cindy described herself as a lover, not a fighter – and she loved many things, including babies, animals, word search puzzles, bingo, and dancing to oldies music. But most of all, she loved her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She stayed sassy, stubborn, and funny until the very end, making everyone around her laugh in her final moment.

Before her illnesses, she was an avid cook. Her favorites included cheesecake, homemade noodles, and baked Mac and cheese.

Surviving are her father Richard Powell of Nelsonville; children Justin (Brandy) of Nelsonville and Larissa (Elliott) of Columbus; siblings, Susan Powell of Boston, MA, Kathy (Steve) DiPerna of Berea, and Richy Powell of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Malakia and Makaiah; and many friends at the Hickory Creek of Athens nursing home in the plains.

Cindy was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Danny Sturgeon; and granddaughter, Makaila Haye.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff at Hickory Creek of Athens, who took care of Cindy for the last 5 years.

In Lieu of flowers, Cindy’s family requests donations be made to your favorite animal shelter in her memory.

To honor Cindys wishes, the family has opted to not have a service. Instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
