Darrel Thomas Dexter, age 86, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
Born April 9, 1937, in Coonville, Ohio, Darrel is the son of the late Thomas and Thelma (Martin) Dexter.
Darrel enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1957 to 1959. He was a self-employed excavator, who enjoyed flying his ultra-light plane. He also was the owner and driver of many race cars that he drove at Midvale Speedway for 52 years.
Darrel is survived by his children Peggy Ann Dexter, Darrel Thomas Dexter, Darrel Lee Dexter, Tina (Jamie) Kimes, Terrance Alan Dexter, Karen Perry, Maxine (James) Peppers, Daren Dexter and Angel Householder; his siblings Eldon Dexter, Chris (Scott) Grimes, Jerry (Dave) Meeks, Cherokee (Jeff) Mohler, Charlene (Kermit) Berry and Willy Dexter; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and life-long friends Randy Smith, Bill Brim, Ralph Perry, Carl Enos and Mark Mathias.
Calling hours were from 5 to 8, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville.
Calling hours were also from 11 to 1, with a funeral service at 1 p.m., on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio. Burial followed in Asbury Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio.
