Donald R. Cavote

Donald R. Cavote, 85, passed away on February 4, 2017 at his home in Columbus, Ohio. Don was born in Corning, Ohio on January 29, 1932. He graduated from Nelsonville High School, Nelsonville, Ohio, and continued on to receive a degree from Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio. Don was married to Gay E. Whitmore in 1951; they were married for 66 years. Don retired as District Director for the Ohio EPA. Throughout much of his career, he was a consulting engineer by trade. He had previously worked a number of years as an electrical engineer at Columbus & Southern Electric Co.. Additional engineering work took place at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, as well as boiler consulting work for U.S. Chemical, Dupont, and various schools, much while working under his company, Cavote Brothers. As a military veteran, Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Don was a loving, caring, hard-working husband and father, who enjoyed working as an accomplished handy man, able to fix anything with his own two hands. He was also an active participant on the board of his condominium association. His mind never stopped thinking, solving problems and meeting challenges. Don is survived by spouse, Gay Cavote; brother, Patrick (Susan) Cavote; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Davis and Sue Hersey; children, Paul (Susan) Cavote, Debra (Norman) Richards, and Jeffery (Kristin) Cavote; grandchildren, Richard Cavote, Thomas (Sarah) Cavote, Brad and Jessica Richards, and David and Rachel Cavote; as well as nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Don is preceded in death by his father, Paul A. Cavote; mother, Susan F. Cavote; and brothers, John & Paul Eugene “Gene” Cavote. Funeral arrangements were handled by Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio, where the funeral services were held Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm with officiating by Father Christopher Foxhoven. Visitation was held at Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 11 am to time of service at the funeral home. Burial followed, the funeral, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio.
