Howard Eugene Newell, age 77, of New Plymouth, Ohio went to be in the presence of our maker and the taker God. He took the hand of Jesus, February 28, 2023, at 8:50 am after a short illness of pneumonia and two fractured vertebrae in his back.
Howard was born on April 23, 1945, to Howard Samuel Newell and Delia in Venice, Florida. He graduated from Central High School in 1962, Columbus, Ohio. Howard was a dedicated husband, father, grandpa, and friend. He went through his life with one hand due to a malfunction of a machine at his workplace in 1968, and became the one armed bandit. There wasn’t anything he could not accomplish. Howard was a very good man! Kind, loving, and caring. He loved Jesus and was the best dad in the world. He retired from Big Bear/Giant Eagle in 2014. He loved sports, tv, music of all kinds, and his beloved dog “Sparky.”
Howard was preceded in death by his wife Mary Newell and his son in law Bernard Campbell. Survived by Howard’s children, Lesia Campbell (John Cherry), Teresia (Donald Shepherd), and Buddy (Kim) Newell; 6 grandchildren, Candice (Joel) Walton, Michael (Emily) Zinn, Christy (Ethan) Olson, Samantha, Abby, and Noah; and 1 great-grandchild, Julian Walton.
His family wishes to extend a very special thanks to his close friends Brenda and Clayton Thomas, the dedicated staff at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Hospice of Promedica. He enjoyed his last year of life, living with his daughter Lesia in New Plymouth.
A celebration of life and memorial service was held on Monday March 6, 2023, with visitation from 11:00 to 1:00 and a memorial at 1:00 pm at New Plymouth United Methodist Church, 23229 Cherry Ridge Rd. New Plymouth, Ohio 45654. Burial immediately followed at New Plymouth Cemetery.
