James “Ike” Carter


James Gregory “Ike” Carter, age 67, of Logan, Ohio, passed away January 13, 2024, at his residence.

“Ike” was born December 22, 1956, in Nelsonville, Ohio to Joseph and Lorraine Carter. He was a 1975 graduate of Westland HS and the Paul C. Hayes Technical School; worked as a mechanic at Mercer Auto Sales for 29 years and the State Highway Patrol for 5 years.  He collected and restored old cars and was a member of the Hocking County Old Car Club.  Ike enjoyed NASCAR and racing dwarf cars and 3 wheelers.  He helped restore the Henry Lutz car and helped rebuild bikes for the Jaycee’s Toys for Tots.  Ike loved going to his grandkids sporting events and enjoyed working puzzles with the grandkids. Ike lived in a neighborhood with many wonderful neighbors.    

Surviving are his wife, Becky Carter; son, Matthew Carter; daughter, Erin (Chris) Helms; 4 beautiful granddaughters, Sophie & Hannah Carter, and Carter & Mia Helms; brother, Michael (Becky) Carter; and nieces and nephews, Ginger, Heather, Robert, Jenny (John), Jennifer, Brian, Mary, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Jeffrey (Keri), and Sam;  great niece, Mille; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Roberta) Murphy, Robert (Anita) Carr and Rodney (Robin) Carr; and a special friend Dick Riggs.

“Ike” was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lorraine Carter; parents-in-law, Robert and Dana Carr; and nephew, Scott Carter.

Funeral services were held at 12 Noon, Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Freedom Memorial Church, Logan, Ohio with Pastor Iris Conrad officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.

Calling hours were observed 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home and on Friday one hour prior to service at the church.
