Jean Mowrey

Jean Evelyn Mowrey, 93, a lifelong resident of Hocking County died peacefully on September 4, 2018 at Carlin House in Logan. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Kline Memorial United Methodist Church since childhood, where she was active in United Methodist Women, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She and her late husband enjoyed farming and raising cattle on their farm in Rockbridge, traveling, including wintering in the south in their RV while working with the NOMADS organization for ten years. She graduated from Logan High School in 1942, worked at Elberfelds store in Logan, met and married the love of her life in 1948, raised three boys, instilling a love of God and family as they grew. She also enjoyed volunteering at Hocking Valley Community Hospital for 32 years, working at the polls on election day for many years, visiting the sick and shut-ins, fishing,observing birds and wildlife, making pies, and helping others in ways to numerous to mention. Born March 4, 1925 to Homer and Etta Evans, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years Everett C. Mowrey, brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Bonnie) Evans, Carl (Lucille) Evans, brothers-in-law, Roscoe (Olive Jane) Mowrey, and N. Richard Mowrey, sister-in-law, Thelma (Lloyd) Cox, and daughters-in-law, Judy Mowrey and Kathy Mowrey. Survived by sons, Dennis Mowrey of New Kent VA, Dean (Nancy) Mowrey of Waynesville, OH, and Craig (Debbie) Mowrey of Westerville, OH, grandchildren, Bill (Lauren) Mowrey of Chesapeake, VA, Cara (Chris) Young, Sunbury, OH, and Brandon (Allison) Mowrey, Ft. Mitchell, KY., great-grandchildren, Luis Mowrey, Carlos Mowrey and Charlotte Leigh Mowrey, sister-in-law Helen Mowrey, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincerest appreciation for the wonderful staff and residents of Carlin House, which Jean has called home for over 3 years, you all truly enriched her life during her time there. We would also like to express our gratitude to the people of Fairhope Hospice for their love and support during her final days. Friends called on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, 204 W. Main Street, Logan, OH 43138. The service was conducted by Pastor Linda Ward. A graveside service followed immediately at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggested donations be made to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130 or Kline Memorial United Methodist Church, 28996 Enterprise Iles Rd Logan, OH 43138, or the charity of your choice.
