John W. Newlun, age 76, of New Straitsville, Ohio, passed away November 8, 2023, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan, Ohio.
John was born October 31, 1947, in Athens County to John Coakley and Ruth Pancake. John enjoyed fishing, watching westerns and Star Trek, and tinkering to repair various things.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia (Mike) Barrow; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert “Bob” Coakley and Howard (Jacki) Coakley; sisters, Ruth Cunningham, Mary Grippi, Mae (Ethel) Wright, and Kay (Jack) Adams; sister-in-law, Sharon Newlun; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Pancake; father, John Coakley; step-father, Gilbert Pancake; maternal grandparents, Lukey and Madge Pickett-Johnson; grandson, Vincent Barrow; brothers, Kenneth (Deanna) Newlun, Jerry (Flossie) Newlun, and Leonard Newlun; and sister, Betty Herres.
At this time the family has opted for a simple cremation of John.
Arrangements are by the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home of Logan, Ohio.
