Judith Ellen Unger-Gaines passed away quietly at home on January 12, 2024.
Judy was born July 26, 1944, in South Bloomingville Ohio to Pearl F and Ruth L Unger. She grew up in the Hocking Hills and graduated from Laurelville High school in 1962. She soon thereafter married Paul “Butch” Gaines of Circleville, with whom she had four children: Brian (Kyra), Lyndon Blaine (Jennifer), and Julie, all of Oak Hill, OH, and Brett (Maggie Blevins) of Marysville, OH. She was employed many years by both the Goodyear company and Kroger before retiring.
In addition to her children, Judy is survived by sisters, Marilyn Justice and Kathy (Jim) Stevens; and brothers, Mick (Cheryl) Unger and Marty (Reba) Unger; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Butch; her parents; and brothers, Jake Unger, Jim Unger, and Rick Unger.
Judy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as gatherings with her siblings. She also loved her dog, Patches. She especially enjoyed weekend getaways at the home of Mick and Cheryl, and vacations with her children and grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 7:00 PM on January 16, 2024, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio. Calling hours were held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Holzer Heritage Foundation designated to the Holzer Cancer Center Gallipolis in Ohio, or Heartland Hospice of Jackson, Ohio.
