Kay Rosemary Gabriel, age 65, of Nelsonville, Ohio, passed away October 31, 2024, in Athens, Ohio.
Kay was born November 15, 1958, in Nelsonville, Ohio to Richard and Sally Hopstetter. Kay was an active member of the Athens Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. Kay was a graduate of Hocking college and earned her associate’s degree as medical assistants. She enjoyed going on scenic drives, was a very creative and imaginative artist, joyed being outside in her garden, and caring for her chickens, dogs, and cats. Kay was a very caring and supportive person. She had a great sense of humor and loved seeing people happy and laughing. Kay will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her siblings, William (Rhea) Hopstetter, David Hopstetter, Natalie (Mike) Wozniak, Stephen Hopstetter, George (April) Hopstetter, Dale Hopstetter, and Joseph Hopstetter; nieces, Heidi Hopstetter, Jamie Hopstetter, Rosella Hopstetter, Savannah Hopstetter, Jayla Hopstetter, and Mia Stutzman; nephews, Michael J. Stutzman, Devon Stutzman, Daniel Hopstetter, Keith Hopstetter, Dominic Hopstetter, Jan Hopstetter, Alex (Jazmine) Hopstetter, Gabriel families, Vandercaveye families, and Whitmore families; cousin, Annette (Tom) Bentley; Sylvania Ave. family; special friends from the Athens Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses; dogs, Aloysius and Polly “Fuzz”; cat, Coal Dust; and special thank you for all the care from Daniel, Rebecca, and Jazmine at the Laurels of Athens.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Gabriel; parents, Richard and Sally Hopstetter; brother-in-law, Mike Stutzman; sister-in-law, Tammy Hopstetter and Annette Hopstetter; all the grandparents, aunts, and uncles in the Hopstetter, Gettle, Gabriel, and Vandercaveye families; cousin, Dorothy Gettle; dogs, Sara, Tucker, and Paco; and cats, Mr. Kitty and Polar.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home in Nelsonville, Ohio with Bruce Westfall with the Athens Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, Ohio.
Calling hours will be observed from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, prior to the service at the funeral home.
