Kenneth J. Tyo, age 93, of Nelsonville, Ohio, passed away December 3, 2023, at his residence.
Kenneth was born September 2, 1930, in Athens County, Ohio to Vernon Tyo and Julia Berry Tyo. He was a 1948 graduate of Nelsonville High School; Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Army; formerly worked at the former Nelsonville Foundry and the Logan Foundry; member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nelsonville for over 50 years; and a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Nelsonville.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathy (Michael) Fitterer of Sarasota, Florida; son, Gary (Susie) Tyo of Union Furnace; grandchildren, Eric Wilson of Logan, Kyle (Wendy) Wilson of Logan, Ashleigh Fitterer of Florida, Trisha Tyo (Roy Hollingsworth) of Cleveland, and Michelle Tyo of Athens; great-grandchildren, Cody, Brendan, Tucker, and Jenna Wilson; sister, Shirley (Rudy) Campbell of Nelsonville; and his best buddy, Ed Flowers.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Betty L. Tyo, who passed away February 3, 2008; brother Bill Tyo; and half-brother, Cecil Sorrels.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm Friday December 8, 2023, at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio, where Military Graveside services were conducted by the Combined Color Guard.
Calling hours were 5-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
