Larry Allen Welch, age 63, of Logan, Ohio died on Monday, September 9, 2024, at his home after an extended illness.
Larry was born April 20, 1961, in Athens, Ohio. He is the son of the late Neil Martin Sr. and Harriet Martha Antle Welch. Larry was a graduate of Federal Hocking High School Class of 1979. He served in the US Navy and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for his actions and injuries he received while serving on the USS Samuel B Roberts (FFG 58) during the Iranian Mine accident of April 14, 1988. Larry was a member of Hocking Valley Sportsmen Club. He was an avid pool player, hunter, and fisherman; and loved Ohio State football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He worked at various jobs while living in Ladson, SC; and he most recently worked at Auto Zone in Logan.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Julie (Shawn) Lewis and Connie Sue Russell; son, Chad (Courtney) Welch; granddaughters, Aaliyah (Carter) Hodson and Alandria Lewis; grandsons, Corbin (Shana) and Caden (Alivia) Estep; great-grandsons, Leland and Waylon Estep; sisters, Linda (Don) Hampshire of Versailles, Ohio, Gloria (Paul) Keirns of Amesville, Donna (Randy) Coen, and Marcia Welch of Athens; half-sisters, Mary (Sam) Lewis of Albany and Ginny (Jim) Carney, of IN; half-brothers, Gary (Judy) Welch, of PA, William (Kathy) Antle of Columbus, and James Antle of Athens; sisters-in-laws, Kim Welch and Nancy Welch, ME; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; three brothers, Neil Martin Jr, Ralph Welch, and Charles Welch; half-brother, Roger Welch; two half-sisters, Beverlee Antle and Patricia Antle Layne; and aunt, Eleanor Antle Birtcher.
Larry’s wishes were to be cremated and there were to be no services held. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio.
