Lawrence Richard Saunders

Lawrence Richard Saunders, 71, of Lancaster, Ohio died unexpectantly on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

He was the 2nd son of the late Kenneth and Alice Saunders.

Lawrence graduated in 1971 from Lancaster High School, and in 1978 from Central State University. He is a veteran of the Army Reserves. Lawrence lived in Houston Texas for many years and worked as a tax preparer with H&R Block. In the off season, he tended bar at the Houston Astrodome and for special events. He moved back to Lancaster and worked at the H&R Block in Canal Winchester.

Lawrence is known for his quirky sense of humor, goofy stories, and his kind heart. He loved going to BW3 to cheer on the Cleveland Browns with the Browns Backers; and playing the lottery. He is one of the co-founders of the Black Interest Group of Lancaster, and a member of Allen Chapel.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert “Bobby” Saunders; brother-in-law Dennis Hughes; and nephew, Dennis Jr.

He is survived by brothers, Kenneth Jr. (Mary Ann), Alan, Anthony (Toni), Kevin (Frances), and Evan (Susan); sisters Hollie and Valeria; nieces and nephews, cousins, and the special friends he met along the way.

Visiting hours will be from 11AM to 1PM Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Church located at 700 Spring St. in Lancaster. Homegoing services will follow at 1PM. A private burial will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations to offset final expenses can be made to the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home located at 204 W. Main St. in Logan, Ohio 43138.
