Marilyn G. Bates

Marilyn Gail. Bates, 87 years old died on November 17, 2022, at her home in Union Furnace, Ohio. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through several years of rapidly advancing Alzheimer’s.

Marilyn was born April 3, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio to Paul Moore and Mildred Haas. She attended the Church of God of Prophecy for many years until poor health confined her to home.

She was known for her beautiful singing voice and blessing others through her God given skill at the piano. Her signature gift of gab and ability to never be on time will forever be a running joke amongst those who loved her.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie Bates Jr.; sister, Jean Morris; and a brother-in-law, Howard Morris.

Surviving are her sister, Carolyn (Neil) Williams; daughter, Cherry Spelock; son, Leslie Thomas (Paivi) Bates; grandchildren, Christopher (Erica) Bevard, Cory (Haylee) Hatfield, Lori (Spencer) Nimon, Jonathan (Nina) Bates, and Simon Bates; great-grandchildren, Myles & Lennox Bevard, Maria Bates, and Olivia Bates (due to enter this world in April 2023); and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, too numerous to count.

Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Tuesday November 22, 2022, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio with Rev. Edwin Wilson officiating.

Calling hours were observed 6-8 pm Sunday, November 20, 2022, and 2-4 & 6-8 pm Monday, November 21, 2022, at the funeral home.
