Mary Ellen Hurd 86, of Nelsonville, Ohio passed away April 26, 2016 at The Laurels of Athens in Athens, Ohio. Mary was born November 29, 1929 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Virgil and Goldie Young. She served as York Township Fiscal Officer for many years; attended Nelsonville Church of the Nazarene; formerly active in various civic organization; and was a Republician Central Commiteeman for over 40 years. Surviving are her son John Richard (Barbara) Hurd of Nelsonville; daughters, Nedra (Darl) Wycuff of Nelsonville, twin daughters, Darlene (George) Tipple of Nelsonville, and Marlene (Mike) Hook of Florida; grandson who was raised in the home John Richard Jr. (Sandi) Hurd of Buchtel; grandchildren, Ryan Hurd, Chris Morris, Jeana Wycuff, Darl (Shannon) Seel, Bobbie Loudner, Debra Hook, and Marcie (Jason) Strickland; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Dale (Betty) Young of Nelsonville; many nieces and nephews; and wonderful friend Regina Wack of Nelsonville. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maynard E. Hurd who passed away January 7, 1994; nephew Steven Young who passed away in 1964; and sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Adrian Hurd. Funeral services were held 1:00 pm Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home Nelsonville, Ohio with Rev. Ed True officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio Calling hours were observed Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 5-8 pm and Friday, April 29, 2016 from 11:00 am to time of service all at the funeral home.
