Nancy E. Leddy

Nancy Elinor Leddy, age 82, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio (formerly of New Straitsville), passed away September 20, 2023, at the Inn at Summit Trail, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff of Capital City Hospice, the Inn at Summit Trail, and Amber Park Assisted Living who warmly cared for Nancy during her long and challenging struggle with dementia.

Nancy was born December 31, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio to Walter L. Leddy Sr. and Dorothy M. (Coakley) Leddy. Nancy devoted 30 years as a Sister in the Order of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity where she taught in schools in New York, West Virginia, and Ohio, while also ministering in a variety of ways in rural areas of southern Ohio.

She continued this ministry in addition to teaching, and volunteering in a number of public schools in central and southern Ohio. Nancy is fondly remembered by many students for impacting their education and enriching their lives with her compassion and persistence.

She served as organist for St. Patrick’s and New Lebanon churches in Junction City, and Holy Trinity in New Lexington. She volunteered at Camp Nuhop; regularly played piano for local nursing home residents; delivered Meals On Wheels; provided staples for the McArthur Food Pantry. She worked with her local community on land preservation and care. Nancy loved the awesome beauty and simplicity of nature and saw it as sacred in God’s design. She was an avid beekeeper for years and loved being outdoors with the birds, trees, flowers, and gardens. She was frugal, almost to a fault – yet abundantly generous.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Leddy Jr. (Orlando, FL); and sisters, Jeanne Fowler (Pickerington, OH) and Marilyn Kilpatrick (Fort Jones, CA).

Nancy is survived by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Leddy; one niece; seven nephews; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

A worship service to celebrate Nancy’s life was held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 S. Waggoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 10:00 am.

Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 South High St. Lockbourne, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated for Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr #170, Columbus, OH 43231.
