Norma Jean Smith

Norma Jean Smith, age 93, of Logan, Ohio, passed away July 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, at the Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio.

Norma was born September 10, 1929, in Logan, Ohio to Dessie Brooks Waldron, her stepfather was former Hocking County Sheriff, A.J. “Jack” Waldron.  A Logan High School graduate, she attended the Holzer Hospital School of Nursing in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was an active member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church in Logan. She loved the Lord and her family and friends. Norma worked as a teacher’s aide at West Elementary School, was a clerk for Cosper Well Service and retired as circulation clerk for the Logan-Hocking County District Library.                        

Surviving are her son, Richard “Rick” (Pamela) Smith of Union Furnace; daughters, B.J. Smith of Nashport, and Jan (Leo) Soboslai of Columbus; grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Smith, Jamie (Teres) Smith, Hannah (Abby) Bird, Leah Soboslai, and Brennah Soboslai; great-grandchildren, Jessica Mock, J.T. Smith, Riley Smith, and Andrew Bird; and her loved caregiver, Jeannie Beck.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen T. Smith, who passed away in 1973; and siblings-in-law, Martha Pullen, Nancy Richardson, June Mount, Ann Bevins, and Bill Smith.

Funeral services were held at 11 am Friday July 28, 2023, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio with Pastor David Roach officiating. Burial was in Smith Chapel Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.

Calling hours will be observed 4-8 pm Thursday and 10-11 am Friday at the funeral home.
