Patricia
L. Ray, Lancaster, formerly of Nelsonville, 78, passed on to her new
eternal life Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Arbors of Carroll, Carroll,
Ohio.
She was the daughter of the late Alfred Ray and Gertrude Wend Ray
Clouston.
Patti was born April 18, 1937 in Nelsonville, Ohio. She graduated from
Nelsonville High School in 1955 and Ohio University with a B.S. Ed in
Elementary Education. Throughout her career Patti taught at the former
Green and Enterprise Elementary Schools of the Logan School System, and
West Elementary and Sanderson for the Lancaster City Schools. She taught
a total of 34 years and retired in 1991. She was a member of NEA, OEA,
and local education associations; and Friends of the Library, Lancaster.
During her childhood, Patti was a member of the Nelsonville Christian
Church and presently was a member of Cross Pointe Freewill Baptist
Church in Lancaster.
Patti is survived by sisters, Judy (Charles) Backus and Sharon Campbell,
both of Arizona, Janice Clouston of Carroll, who cared for her over the
years, and Lisa (David) Kline of Nelsonville; brother Jack (Diana)
Clouston of Oregon; special nieces, Mary Ellen (Hank) Mize of Buchtel,
Martha Lawhorn of Athens, and Sara Gibbons of Logan; special nephews,
Tim (Kylie) Kline and Ben Kline, both of Nelsonville; many, many nieces
and nephews, all very much loved by their Aunt Patti; many cousins; and
Honey Bun, a family member’s dog, who she loved and enjoyed.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents; step-father John Clouston;
sisters, Lois Gibbons and Rosemary Vasko; brothers, Jim Ray and Roy
Clouston; niece Susan Gibbons Davis; nephew Michael Smith; and friend
June Tolliver.
The family wants to extend their appreciation to all of Patti’s medical
providers in Lancaster and Fairfield County; and special friends, Mary
Wake and Jennifer Speerman who were a comfort and a joy to Patti.
Special thanks to her niece, Sara Gibbons, for her time and care.
A memorial service was held at the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church on August
21, 2015 at 11:00 am, followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn
Cemetery. Pastors, Mike Thomas and William Pitts officiated.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
