Rev. James R. Mathias, age 88, of Logan, Ohio, passed away October 29, 2022, at The Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio.
Jim was born April 21, 1934, in Nelsonville, Ohio to John and Mary Catherine Mathias. He graduated from Logan High School; served as minister of the Laurel Run Community Church for 8 years; served as minister of the Coonville Holiness Church for 49 years; worked at Logan Clay from 1958-1996. In his retirement, he worked for Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Mathias; sons, Richard (Freeda) Mathias of Missouri, Steve (Lisa) Mathias of Centerburg, and James Robert (Katherine) Mathias of Florida; daughters, Patricia Ann Harden of Lancaster, Christy Woods of Maryland, Marsha (Dale) Boston of Orrville, Ohio, and Jamie Sue (Keith) Hanning of Logan; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Dean (Cindy) Mathias of Lancaster; sisters, Mary Katherine Chevelier of Ft. Worth, TX, Shirley (Donald) Starner, and Ellen (Paul) Cook of Lancaster; and sisters-in-law, Twila Mathias, and Bette Mathias.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jerry (Katherine) Mathias, Joseph Mathias, John Mathias, Edgar Mathias, Tom (Barbara) Mathias; brother-in law Richard Chevelier.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Faith Memorial Church in Lancaster, Ohio with Rev. Dale Boston and Pastor Larry Moore officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio.
Calling hours were observed 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
