Sam Brooks, 62, peacefully passed away on July 31, 2024, at Hickory Creek of Athens, in The Plains, Ohio, surrounded by his family. He was born July 8, 1962, in Nelsonville, Ohio.
Sam was a man who lived life on his own terms. While he may not have followed a lot of rules, he left a lifetime of unforgettable memories and tons of stories that will be told for generations to come. There isn’t a person, who knew Sam, that doesn’t have a story to tell. He was so full of mischief and always had a larger than life personality. Sam was truly one of a kind. He was also a strong man whose determination to overcome numerous medical obstacles showcased just how strong he was.
Sam dearly loved his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Poppy.” He also loved his children unconditionally and supported them through any obstacle in their lives. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family. A few of his hobbies included spending time with his mom, riding Harleys, and watching documentaries.
Sam is survived by his children, Samantha (Brad) Brooks, Tabitha (Dustin) Powers, Samuel (Brandi) Brooks Jr, Beth (Grant) Brooks, and Chantel Washington; step daughter, Jessica Brunton; grandkids, Zachariah, Zayden, Lukas, Zavier, Gunner, Aubree, Meliah, Chrissa, Braxton, Kiah, Caden, Zayleigh, Kaliyah, Jadalynn, Rayhanna, Luke, and Everleigh; two siblings, Elijah (Dianne) Brooks of Glouster, and Martha Jones (Joe) of Glouster; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Gaylord Brooks; mother, Bernadine Brooks; and brothers and sisters, Wayne, Rejeana, David, Abigail, Daniel, Ezekial, and Vern.
A celebration of his life was held at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, 80 E. Washington St. Nelsonville, Ohio, on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 11:00 am with Pastor Scott Heskett officiating, where stories and laughter will be shared in his honor. Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, Ohio.
Visitation was held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
