Velma Woody, “Aunt Sissy”, 87, Nelsonville, went to her heavenly home, Saturday, March 11, 2017. She was born October 28, 1929 of the late William Porter and Addie “Hankeison” Maccombs. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Mellinger and second husband, Everett Woody. In addition to her husbands and parents she was preceded in death by infant brother, Donald and brother, Delbert; brother and sister-in-law, Wilford and Phyllis Maccombs; sisters, Opal McFarland and Alice Bachtel; and sister-in-law, Virginia Maccombs. She was a 1947 graduate of Buchtel High School and was employed by Ohio Bell for 31 years. She was a member of the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church and was involved in many church activities; and particularly enjoyed singing in the church choir and the community choir. She is survived by brothers, Eldon (Jane) Maccombs of Nelsonville, Gerald Maccombs of Elyria, Paul (Rheta) Maccombs of The Plains, and Melvin (Jeri) Maccombs of Nelsonville; and sister, Gladys Dicken of Logan. Aunt Sissy’s family was her passion and delight. She was blessed with a large and loving family. She loved looking at the many pictures that she had of family and was always asking for more. She loved to roller skate and did so until she was 80 years old. Aunt Sissy was a warm, caring, beautiful lady with a great laugh and love for the Lord. She will always be remembered for her very special hugs and kisses. Aunt Sissy lived all of her life in the home where she was born and she always welcomed visitors. Aunt Sissy was loved by many nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, 600 Chestnut Street, with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville. Friends called at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, 80 East Washington Street Nelsonville, on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church, on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
