William E. “Bill” Gillespie, age 81, of Nelsonville passed away February 29, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.
Bill was born February 28,1943, in Dover Township, Athens County, Ohio to Michael E. Gilliespie and Margaret West Gillespie. Bill was well known in the community, and loved by all who knew him.
He was a regular at Tammy’s Country Kitchen, and a fan of the chicken noodle dinner. Bill enjoyed spending time with his friends and listening to gospel music.
In his younger days, he could be found on the streets of Nelsonville collecting cans & bottles to recycle. He was best remembered as Pop Bottle Bill.
He attended Sech-Kar Day Services, and the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his brother, James Lefever Gillespie, who passed away January 24, 2024.
Bill will be deeply missed by his cat “Fat Cat”, and all of his friends, caregivers, and friends at Rescare
Funeral services were held at 1 pm, Thursday March 7, 2024, at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio with Pastor Andy Stine officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio.
Calling hours were observed 11 am – 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
