William Maynard Coakley

William Maynard Coakley was a man of faith. His love of God was evident to anyone who spent time with him. His faith has become sight as he was welcomed into the arms of the Savior Monday, November 13, 2023, from Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was 87.

William was born on May 31, 1936, in Hocking County, Ohio, to William Edward Coakley and Bessie (Monabell) Coakley.

William dedicated many years of his life to serving his community, retiring as a bus driver for Logan-Hocking Schools. Prior to his time with the school district, he worked at OGG Wholesale in Nelsonville, GM Baker and Sons in Columbus, and Logan Auto Parts. His strong work ethic and commitment left a lasting impact on those around him.

In addition to his professional life, William found joy in the great outdoors. He had a passion for fishing and hunting, finding peace and connection with nature. These moments were not only a source of relaxation for William but also opportunities to create lasting memories with those he loved as spending time with his family was very important to him.

Above all else, his faith in Jesus was paramount. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Logan, William enjoyed spending time in the Bible daily. His devotion to God reflected his values of love, kindness, and fellowship. William Maynard Coakley’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and he will be greatly missed!

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Martha M. Coakley, and his grandson, Christopher W. Coakley, along with his granddaughter-in-law, Kristen J. Coakley, and great-grandson, Cayden C. Coakley. William is also survived by his step-sister, Mona Stone, and step-brother, David Perry, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Coakley, and siblings Charles Coakley, George Coakley, and Sheila A. Engle, along with his half-brother, Ron Perry.

A funeral service, honoring William’s life, was held on Friday November 17, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home Logan, Ohio. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, Ohio.

Calling hours were observed 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the funeral home.
