William Michael “Mike” Thompson

Born August 14,1942, in Chesapeake Ohio to Henry and Muriel Ester Thompson of The Plains, Ohio. Michael was a US Army Veteran, having been stationed in Alaska. Michael worked as an Electronics Technician and Electrician for the RCA Corporation of Indiana, and later retiring from the former Metalbestos Corporation in Logan, Ohio. Michael was married to Jo Ann Thompson for 44 years and resided in Buchtel, Ohio.

Michael was proceeded in death by both of his parents, Henry and Merle Thompson; his brother, John (Muriel) Thompson of California; sister, Nancy (Charlie) Simms of Ohio; son, Allen Thompson of Indiana; son, Dale Lyons of Carbon Hill, Ohio; and his niece, Kimberly Barnhart of Lancaster, Ohio. 

Michael is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Thompson of Buchtel, Ohio; son, Roger (Lisa) Lyons of Nelsonville; daughter, Angela Lyons of Columbus; son, Jason Lyons (Sheila Taggart) of Nelsonville; sister, Sue (Eddie) Barnhart of Lancaster, Ohio; sister, Patricia Hudnell of Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Ohio and Indiana.

Michael attended Risen Redeemer Church, where he served as Elder, and where he had many close friends, who had become like family over the years. Michael loved to play golf with his best friend, Pastor John Johnson.

 Michael was passionate about treating others as individuals, always had a smile on his face, and lived life by the slogan, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” Michael was one of Cleveland Clinics longest living heart transplant patients, who took life one day at a time, and loved everyone who knew him. Michael now resides, with his family and friends who have passed before him, in the vast and beautiful place called Heaven, with Jesus Christ having been his savior.

A funeral service was held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 15, 2023, with family and friends at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville Ohio. The Combined Color Guard conducted military services prior to the service.

Calling hours were held 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, April 14, 2023, at the funeral home.
