Bernadine Hanning

Bernadine Hanning, 86, of Nelsonville, Ohio, formerly of Buchtel, passed away May 21, 2016 at The Laurels of Athens, Athens, Ohio. Bernadine was born September 24, 1929 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Earl and Mary Mourn. She was in the first nursing class to graduate from Hocking Tech; member of Oak Grove Wesleyan Church; member of the Roman’s Road Church of the Laurels; worked at the TB Hospital in Nelsonville and Mt. Saint Mary’s Hospital; worked and retired from the Athens Mental Health Center; and loved to attend festivals and go to yard sales with her mother. Surviving are her children, Kenneth (Fauna) Hanning of Nelsonville, Brent (Rita) Hanning of Nelsonville, and Rosemary Hanning of Columnbus; grandchildren, Julie, Christy, Jenny, Amy, Rusty, Beth, and Jessie; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, JoAnn Chenoweth of Powell, Betty Graham of McConnelsville, and Beverly Mellinger of Nelsonville; brother, Mike Mourn of Nelsonville; and special friends, Dorothy Bruce of the Laurels, Margaret Hudnell of The Laurels, and Velma Woody of Nelsonville. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldridge Hanning, who passsed away April 1, 1974 and who recieved the Joseph A. Holmes Medal and the Carnegie Hero Fund Medal; son, Charles Hanning, who passed away in 2003; and siblings, Dick, Chuck, Evelyn, Wimpy, Hazel, Norma Jean, and Linda. Funeral services were held 10:00 am Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio with Pastor Barry Bolin officiating. Burial was in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. Calling hours were observed Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a heartfull thanks for the support, love, and care recieved from all the staff at The Laurels of Athens. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made to the Mid Ohio Valley Alzheimers Association at 1601 2nd Ave. Charleston, WV 25387.
