Emmett H. Davis, 90, of Nelsonville, Ohio passed away August 31, 2015 at his residence. Emmett was born October 13, 1924 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Homer and Nancy Davis. He was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran; attended the Wesleyan Church in Nelsonville and was a member and the treasurer of the Men’s Bible Class; member of the American Legion, former Rotary, and member and past president of the Lions; retired from the Fourth Fighter Group; and active in the Combined Color Guard. He was an iron worker and worked for Iron Workers Local #172. Emmett was a lifetime member of the VFW #3467 and the Nelsonville Elks #543, where he was also the former trustee. He held the position of treasurer at the K of P Lodge of Nelsonville; belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Athens; a Shriner and 32nd Degree Mason in The Plains. Emmett was awarded the Rolland Pierce Award and the Victor Oakley Award of Nelsonville. He loved to do charity work through out the surrounding area and loved people, especially children, and was a friend to all that he met. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Vera J. Davis of Nelsonville; son, Stephen J. Davis of Nelsonville; daughters, Susie (Terry) Conner of Rye, New Hampshire, Vicki (Tom) McLaughlin of Amesville, and Tracey Kimble of Hilliard; grandchildren, Brian (Lisa) Conner of Greenville, South Carolina, Devin Davis of Logan, Sean (Shantelle) McLaughlin of Amesville, Stephanie (Tony) Breeze of Glouster, Nathan (Erin) McLaughlin of Lancaster, and Aidan Kimble of Hilliard; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Payton, Jack, Macy, Myla, Chelsie, Joe, Thomas, Caitlyn, Ethan, Mason, William, Ella, and Eli; great-great-grandchildren, Samuel and Gwen; and sister, Flossie Zimmerman of New Marshfield. Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dinah Davis; brother, Raymond Davis; and sisters, Flo Jones, Nora Cagg, and Catherine Andrews. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Wesleyan Church, Nelsonville, Ohio with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Burial was in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio, where Military Graveside services were condusted by the Combined Color Guard. Calling hours were observed Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 2-8 pm at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio and Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
