Eugene Lonberger

Eugene Earl Lonberger 94, of Nelsonville, Ohio, formerly of Jobs, Ohio passed away February 4, 2016 at O’Bleness Hospital, Athens, Ohio. Eugene was born December 5, 1921 in Jobs, Ohio to John and Rose Lonberger. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran having been involved in D-Day; life member of the American Legion Post #420 of Murray City; life member of the VFW of Nelsonville; member of the Amvets and the NRA; and retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad after 36 years. Surviving are his sons, Bill Lonberger of Murray City and John (Judy) Lonberger of Glouster; daughters, Penny K. (Ronald) Peterson of Louisiana, Debbie J. (Bob) McKinney of Nelsonville, and Linda S. Drescher of Logan; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine Lonberger; siblings, Walt, Virgil, Johnny, Sis, and Gail; and daughter-in-law, Tonia Lonberger. Funeral services were held 1:00 pm Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, Ohio with Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio with Military Graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard. Calling hours were observed Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home, with an American Legion service at 7 PM conducted by American Legion Post #420.
