Patrick Leroy “Pat” Gabriel 69, of Nelsonville, Ohio passed away September 4, 2016 at his residence Nelsonville, Ohio. Patrick was born May 9, 1947 in The Plains to Billy Joe and Mary Louise Gabriel. He graduated from The Plains High School in 1965; served in the US Navy in Vietnam; retired from the Ohio University Physical Plant; loved to mow his grass; enjoyed working on his cars; loved his animals including his little dogs Tucker, Polly, Sara, Angus, Oliver, and his three chickens; and loved apricots. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Kay Gabriel; mother-in-law, Sally Hopstetter of Nelsonville; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, William (Rhea) Hopstetter of Nelsonville, David (Annette) Hopstetter and their children of Nelsonville, Natalie (Mike) Wozniak and their children of North Royalton, Stephen Hopstetter and his children, George (April) Hopstetter of Bloomington, Indiana, Dale Hopstetter of Nelsonville, and Joseph Hopstetter and his daughter Heidi of Nelsonville; cousin, Dorothy Gettle of Nelsonville; all the Gabriel Family, and all of the Vandecaveye family in Michigan; and his family of the North Athens Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in The Plains. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; father-in-law, Walter Richard Hopstetter; sister-in-law, Tammie Hopstetter; and his aunts and uncles. A Memorial service was held 3:00 pm Saturday September 10, 2016 at the The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in The Plains, Ohio with Matthew Stallard officiating. Private burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. Calling hours were observed Friday 2-6 pm at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home in Nelsonville. Flowers can be sent, or in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
