Robert Maurer

Robert Maurer 78, of Nelsonville, Ohio passed away August 14, 2015 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob was born March 21, 1937 in Buchtel, Ohio to John and Gladys Maurer. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Phyllis A. Hall Maurer; sons, Eric R. (Tessa) Maurer of Fort Worth, Texas, and Adam C. Maurer of Monroe, Ohio; daughter Beth A. (Henry) Saliba of Liberty Township, Ohio; and grandchildren, Bradley R. Maurer and Kyle W. Maurer of Fort Worth, Texas, and Alexis A. Saliba and Andrew R. Saliba of Liberty Township, Ohio. Also surviving are a sister, Mary E. Dewhurst of Nelsonville, Ohio; brothers, John Maurer of Nelsonville, Ohio and James (Helen) Maurer of Dublin, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Sandra (Bob) Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio; and brother-in-law James A. Hall of Bainbridge, Ohio. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; niece Susan; sister-in-law Naomi Maurer; and former brother-in-law Max Dewhurst. He was a 1955 graduate of Nelsonville High School and a 1964 graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He began teaching in the Vinton County school system and continued teaching for many years at Nelsonville-York Jr. High School. Additionally he was a small business owner in Nelsonville; worked in the relocation department of ODOT; and was director of Community Action in Logan. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church; Elks #543; VFW in Nelsonville; and Moose Lodge in Logan. He was a past president of the Nelsonville-York School Board; member of the Nelsonville Library Board; and was also a Boy Scout Leader. Although blessed with many achievements, he considered his family, especially his grandchildren, to be his greatest love and legacy. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio with Father Christopher Foxhoven officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. Calling hours were observed Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Elks Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
