Mary Christina Mitchell of Murray City, Ohio passed away at the age of 53 on Monday, July 11, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her immediate family and best friend Terri Cook. Mary was born in Logan, Ohio on October 14, 1962 to Robert and Mary Schmeltzer. She graduated from Logan High School in 1981 and then went to work for Hocking County’s Ohio Department of Transportation for the next 18 years. Mary lived for her husband and children. Mary enjoyed drinking coffee in the mornings with her husband and best friend; spending time with her family at family gatherings; working outside in the sunshine; watching her favorite television shows; and completing crossword puzzles in her spare time. Mary was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, uncle Earl Schmeltzer; aunt, Diane Schmeltzer; and great-nephew, Waylon Morris. She is survived by her husband of almost 24 years, Michael S. Mitchell of Murray City; sons, Eric (Amber) Mitchell of Nelsonville and Mychal Mitchell of Murray City; daughter, Kristen Mitchell of Murray City; father, Robert Schmeltzer of Bremen; sisters, Sheila (Mike) Cluse of Amanda, Donna (Jerry) Robinette of Nelsonville, and Theresa (Steve) Morris of Bremen; brothers, Bobby (Marisa) Schmeltzer of Newark and Scott (Melissa) Schmeltzer of Logan; several nieces and nephews, including her great-niece, Presley Vasko of Murray City; and best friend, Terri Cook of Murray City. Calling hours were observed on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, Ohio. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, Ohio with Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating the service. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. Following the services there was a gathering of friends and family in the back room of the American Legion in Murray City, Ohio.
