Margaret Nelson

Margaret Ann Nelson, known by her family and friends as Peggy, died August 28, 2015 at her home in The Plains. She was born September 27, 1930 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Elizabeth and Roy Edward Green. Peggy graduated from Nelsonville High School in 1948 and married Clarence Nelson on Thanksgiving Day 1949. They made their home in Nelsonville until Clarence, with the help of their son, David, built them a new home at The Plains, where they moved in 1992. Peggy worked in the accounting department at McBees, until leaving to be payroll clerk at Sylvania Electric Company. She was payroll clerk for Mount St. Mary Hospital, 15 years, while doing secretarial work in the evenings for J. L. Webb, MD, John Greenlees, MD. Peggy was the secretary at the Presbyterian Church, Court St., Athens, before retiring after working 36 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville, over 50 years, transferring membership to The Plains United Methodist Church in 1995. She was a member of the Queen Esther Class at FUMC, where she served as president and secretary. She also served as a trustee and past secretary of Administrative Board at Nelsonville and The Plains. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, The Plains, where she served as the treasurer for 20 years and received Special Mission Recognition Award for her work. She was a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. Peggy was a 50 year plus member of the Eudora Chapter 72 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nelsonville and then a member of the Athens Chapter. Peggy was survived by her much loved son, David, who was always there for her, (Beth) of The Plains; cousins, Alice Green (David) Imboden, Steven (Barbara) White, Allen (Barbara) White, Michael White, BA Riley (Cheryl), Patty Riley (Jerry) McKibben, and Linda Riley (Jerry) Rolli, Linda lived with Peggy and Clarence during her early childhood years. Peggy is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Winigman, and Edna Nelson (Duane) Roberts; and one brother-in-law, King Kelly; and several nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 53 years, Clarence Nelson, who died October 16, 2002. Funeral services were held 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at The Plains United Methodist Church, The Plains, Ohio with Rev. Douglas Flynn officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. Calling hours were observed Monday, August 31, 2015, from 4-8 PM at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville and at 12 noon until time of service at the church on Tuesday. There will be an Eastern Star service on Monday evening.
