Roger S. Call

Roger S. “Joe” Call, 80, of Nelsonville, died Thursday, October 8th at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born December 17th, 1934 in Athens County to the late Howard Franklin and Ruth May (Thacker) Call. He married the love of his life and true soul mate, Carol (McCollum) Call on Jamuary 30, 1955 to whom he was married for 56 years. From that union of love four children were born; sons, Jeff (Gina) Call of Logan, and Randy (Bonnie) Call of South Lyon Michigan; and daughters, Jolene (George) Godenschwager of Longstreth and Karen Call, who unfortunately preceded both Joe and Carol in death in 1987. In addition he is survived by eight grandsons, Nick Call, Jeffey Call, Steve Call, Kevin Call, Joe Call, Ben Call, Mason Godenschwager, and Mark Godenschwager; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Call and Ashley Godenschwager. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Norma Jean Evans of Albany, Doris Campbell of The Plains, Barbara (Roy) Shirley of Somerset, Rodney (Connie) Call of Nelsonville, and David (Shirley) Call of Nelsonville; sisters-in-law, Pat Breeze McCollum, Pat Donson McCollum, and Janet Call; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1952-1956. He was a carpenter and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America #1720. He enjoyed his daily walks, bike riding, reading, and gardening; and was an avid motorcycle rider and enthusiast. In addition to his parents, wife, and daughter Karen, he was preceded in death by his brother Howard E. Call; sister-in-law Mary McCollum Camp; and brothers-in-law Don Evans, Bill McCollum, Tom McCollum, and Denny Camp. His wishes were to be cremated. Arrangements were made by Warren-Brown Funeral Home. A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
